The Costa degli Etruschi– from Vada to San Vincenzo–is characterized by typical beaches and beautiful pine forest. Mazzanta is found between Vada and Cecina. Along this coastal stretch, beach establishments and free beaches alternate. The sea is 400 meters from Villa Mazzanta, and can be reached on-foot, after having passed through the pine forest, 200 meters wide. The beach establishment with which Villa Mazzanta has an agreement has a beach bordered by two cliffs on either side and a slowly sloping seabed, for the joy of the children who here can play safely. Our guests may use the beach equipment service, gratis in some periods, for a fee during others. Famous for the wide beaches of fine sand, more than 5 km long, and for the crystalline sea, many times awarded with the Bandiera Blu, among Italy’s most beautiful beaches, Vada is a much sought-after and exclusive destination. Just a little north of Vada, 4km away from Villa Mazzanta, are the “Spiagge Bianche (White Beaches)”, the characteristic, fine, light-coloured sand, the azure, crystalline sea which gives this stretch of the coast a “Caribbean” aspect. The Rada del Saraceno, the Pietra Bianca pine forest, the Molino a Fuoco, and Mazzanta, are well-known and charming corners of Vada, a small city with very antique origins, known as the natural harbour of Volterra, mentioned by Cicerone and other Latin poets, and the centre of Etruscan thermal baths. Vada then became famous as a refuge of the Saraceni pirates, busy about their raids on the seas. Traces of this epoch are found in the amphoras and in the terracotta vases that at times surface from the seabed. |
